Similar to Storm Claudia swept through the northwest the prior day, the home side overwhelmed the visitors away at the Etihad. It was a convincing 3-0 victory for their manager's side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they strengthened their standing at the top of the table.

Consecutive Setbacks for United

Sadly for the away side, they appeared tired throughout, the historic win against the French side clearly having left its mark.

Tactical Shifts

Marc Skinner had sought to rotate the squad with a a few adjustments. Ella Toone, Terland, Janssen and Leah Galton all added vigor, although the exclusion of the in-form Melvine Malard to the sidelines caused surprise.

City, in comparison, have no similar fitness issues. Jeglertz made a single alteration from the previous win over the Toffees with Hemp making her first start since healing from a fitness issue.

Overpowering Start

The trouble started to build for Skinner and his side from the opening minute. This was a demonstration of the power from City whose dynamic forward line controlled and tore United open with a superb first half display that saw them net a trio in under half an hour.

They added to their lead with another pair of goals just before the half-time. When Jade Rose was permitted to drive through the center from the back, the field widened for City. The prominent Kerstin Casparij picked the ball up on the right before delivering a pinpoint driven ball for Shaw to bundle home. Shortly later, they had a third goal after a swift change in possession saw Lauren Hemp afforded the space to strike a shot home from outside the box.

Final Period

The primary change came from the United manager at the interval as Malard came on for Elisabeth Terland but by this time it was too late to change the course of the match. Former City player Jess Park came nearest, hitting the woodwork, but the away team were lacking in ideas and did not manage to produce a one shot on target.

The home side, on the other hand, could have increased their advantage when a superb Miedema long ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it did not affect the result to the hosts. Previously unable to defeat any opponent who finished above them in the prior term, City's side now have victories against Arsenal and United to put them in a favorable position after the opening fixtures.
